I am an Atlanta based mixed media artist and my artistic journey has taken various twists and turns.  I was an attorney for about 10 but have always daydreamed about being an artist some day.  When my daughter was young, I left the practice of law and created an original line of hand dyed children’s clothing with hand painted designs. I later dabbled in painting wall murals, jewelry making, and creating event decor, but creating mixed media works on wood and canvas is now my true passion.

After many years of art classes and workshops and also trial and error, I have developed my own style of representing contrasting elements that are harmonious and balanced. My goal in my work is to create a sense of familiarity but also imagination.  I often combine opposites in my paintings, which suits my yin and yang belief that our universe consists of opposite but inseparable and interconnected forces.  I am intrigued by both the bold and the subtle, the perfect and the imperfect, and the realistic and the abstract.

My technique includes original and printed collage materials, acrylic paints and inks, and a variety of markers and pencils. I love working on wood panels because they are the perfect sturdy surface for my mark making, and I love allowing the natural grain of the wood to show through to create a sense of organic design.  My canvas paintings typically include watercolor effects with added outlines and bold, contrasting elements.  My pieces typically embody a sense of loose movement but also defined shapes and objects that are recognizable to the viewer, such as botanicals, animals, human figures, and coastal scenes inspired by my favorite beaches on 30A in the Florida panhandle.

I was born in Raleigh, NC but spent my formative years on Signal Mountain in Chattanooga, TN. I attended college and law school at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and am a loyal Tar Heel for life. I currently live with my husband in Atlanta and have a grown daughter, both of whom inspire me to always keep creating.
